One of the most satisfying aspects of photography is the finished product, a nice large print, framed and hanging up on the wall, and to see your vision become reality! I've always enjoyed art, in all forms, that make you feel something special. When I first started making prints I used my home computer and printer, they weren't that big, but I matted and framed them, and hung them on the wall. I'd go to galleries and compare my work with others, and for the most part I was drawn to the large paintings, the size and way they draw you into the scene. I wanted to bring this "look" to my pictures, so I did some research and experimenting to get the right combination and make the most of my photos. First, was finding a printer that could do justice to my photos, it had to be large format, archival, and render the colours perfectly. This was the easy part, the Epson 9600 is the choice of professional photographers everywhere, prints 44 inches wide and the prints are at least double the life of photographs. Next was framing, I wanted to get away from the glass and matting, so I tried a lamination process over the print, mounted it on Gator Board, and framed it just like a painting. When I got home I hung it on the wall in our living room, and fell in love. All my prints are done this way now. Traditional? Maybe not, but as times and technology advances, it is best to take advantage of them. Not sure how many printing services are set up to do this kind of work, but I'm lucky to have a local business here that can meet all my needs, Ron Howard at "The Big Picture". I work with Ron and print from upsized digital .tif files for best resolution and finished product. In the past few years, many of my local photography peers have done the same, makes me feel good to know I was one of the first to make this leap! At the end of the day you have to ask yourself, "What do I want hanging on my wall?" I sell prints, framed and unframed. One of my most popular frames is made from barnwood, and is very reasonably priced. It is best to see some of my prints in person, viewing it on a screen and viewing it in person are two different things. I'm in many local galleries in my area as well as monthly shows.
